I am on the fence about whether escaping civilization was a smart thing to do. The spiritual enlightenment would be a neat thing to experience. Everyone should do it but if you are just trying to get in touch with nature, go camping. Go Far away were at least someone knows where you are and don't leave an enigma about your death like Evert Rulan. Double check and make sure you have the necessity needed for this camp site. Do not pull a Carl McCunn and not get a ride back to civilization. Let alone forfeit your chances with the wrong hand signals. Chris along with Carl McCunn starved and ran out of food and lost a lot of physical strength, not to mention frostbite. I would not try to take an adventure like Chris, Gene, John or Carl did mainly because it did not work out for either of them. I would do something quicker and something you don't have to train for years and testing your body like Gene had to do. I would much rather go parachuting 30,000 feet in the air, you might be able to see the curvature of the earth. Looking down as you plummet to the ground see all the beautiful land marks that nature had to offer. When its time, pull the shoot and glide down(hopefully) safely and feel the adrenaline rush along with the sense of being a live. A lot like what the characters in the story were looking for. The only thing you have to do is jump out of a perfectly good air plane.

1. Road runner, I'm a very fast runner but I also like to take short cuts and get work done quickly.
2. The Maryland flag as the belt buckle. I would make this belt buckle really big like the professional wrestlers to make a statement that I'm from Maryland.
3. A Bel Air Terps Helmet because I played for them for 7 years and I made lasting memories at Tucker field, to movie nights, Nicknames, friendships to memorable moments.
4. The Huntington Learning Center sign on the back of my belt. I could hardly read and they took my reading level from kindergarten to 5th grade in just over a year. why I would put it on the back would be for knowing when things get hard I can look back (that's why its in the back) at this experience and know nothing is impossible.
5. Dollar signs lining the top and bottom of my belt, I like to save my money and by doing well in school I hopefully will be able to get a Job that pays a lot to money.
6. Stick Figure family on the left side of my belt that would represent my family. My brother, myself, my sister , my Mom and my dad.
7. My address of my house would be on the right side of my belt because that is the home I have lived in my whole life.
8. The John Carroll logo on the right side of my belt buckle for the High School that I currently attend.

- Jack London
- other books- The Call of the wild, White Fang, Klondike Gold Rush, To Build a Fire and The Sea Wolf.
- " It was the masterful and incommunicable wisdom of eternity laughing at the futility of life and the effort of life. It was the Wild, the savage, frozenhearted Northland Wild." page 9 beginning of chapter 2
- the Alaskan wilderness was not very forgiving or savage in the quotation but Chris differently understood the efforts of life and how to live.
- "only easy day was yesterday." relates to Chris because he didn't know what the next day would bring, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_London.
Leo Tolstoy
- other famous books were, War and Peace and Anna Karenina
- It should not be denied... that being footloose has always exhilarated us.
It is associated in our minds with escape from history and oppression and
law and irksome obligations, with absolute freedom, and the road has
always led west." page 15 chapter 3
- A quote that is a very Clique quote and is used mainly for sports but, " you control your own destiny." it was Chris McCandless's Choose to ditch his car, give away his money and to set out on his adventure and he died controlling his own life.
Paul Shepard
- Famous books he Wrote were Deep Ecology and Pleistocene
- Here the leaders of the great religions have sought the therapeutic
and spiritual values of retreat, not to escape but to find reality. page 25 beginning of chapter 4
- Connection to Chris is that he wanted to be free and get away from everyone and find his own reality and to enjoy what nature has to offer.
- “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” ― Mae West. i found this on a popular quote sight and new that his applies to Chris McCandless because he did it is way and died loving nature and being in the middle of the Alaskan wilderness but also making friends that he could call family like Jan Burres and her boyfriend Bob.

Redwood National Park
This land is your land this land is my land
From California to the New York Island
From the red wood forest to the Gulf Stream waters
this land was made for you and me.
It would seem almost un-American to not visit California to see some of the world’s tallest trees. Redwood National Park and has more to offer than just trees, that’s why it is the place I want to go and make lasting memories for a life time. Redwood has a beautiful uninterrupted coastline, many rivers and streams, wildlife, trials, mythical legions, tallest trees in world and history all around. These trees were standing at the fall of the Roman Empire. Before becoming a park An Estimated 90 percent of all original trees have been cut down. Forcing restrictions protecting habitats and the trees the forest had to offer. People can hike trails with everlasting sights or kayak down streams or rivers. See all kinds of birds, mammals such as the American black bear, Roosevelt elk and mountain lions to name a few. Average rain fall is 60-80 inches, in the winter it rains heavily and in the summer it’s foggy, so the best time I would go would be in May the temperature would be 61°F and May only gets on average 3.5 inches of rainfall. Flying from Maryland to California and driving to a trail to start my Journey. I would bring trail mix to snack on, water to stay hydrated, shorts, a rain coat, hiking boots, lots of bug spray and a camera with a lot of battery life to take pictures that I will show off to my family and friends. Showing them the fun and the one in a life time experience I had at the Redwood Forrest.
