  • Jack London

    Jack London young.jpg
  • other books- The Call of the wild, White Fang, Klondike Gold Rush, To Build a Fire and The Sea Wolf.
  • " It was the masterful and incommunicable wisdom of eternity laughing at the futility of life and the effort of life. It was the Wild, the savage, frozenhearted Northland Wild." page 9 beginning of chapter 2
  • the Alaskan wilderness was not very forgiving or savage in the quotation but Chris differently understood the efforts of life and how to live.
  • "only easy day was yesterday." relates to Chris because he didn't know what the next day would bring, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_London.

Leo Tolstoy
- other famous books were, War and Peace and Anna Karenina
- It should not be denied... that being footloose has always exhilarated us. It is associated in our minds with escape from history and oppression and law and irksome obligations, with absolute freedom, and the road has always led west." page 15 chapter 3
L.N.Tolstoy Prokudin-Gorsky.jpg- How this quote connects to Chris is he's very Footloose and in the story he says he has itchy feet and can never stay still, but he is always happy moving about in his own manor and fashion to free his mind and escape from his history with is parents.
- A quote that is a very Clique quote and is used mainly for sports but, " you control your own destiny." it was Chris McCandless's Choose to ditch his car, give away his money and to set out on his adventure and he died controlling his own life.

Paul Shepard
- Famous books he Wrote were Deep Ecology and Pleistocene
-  Here the leaders of the great religions have sought the therapeutic and spiritual values of retreat, not to escape but to find reality. page 25 beginning of chapter 4
- Connection to Chris is that he wanted to be free and get away from everyone and find his own reality and to enjoy what nature has to offer.
“You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” ― Mae West.  i found this on a popular quote sight and new that his applies to Chris McCandless because he did it is way and died loving nature and being in the middle of  the Alaskan wilderness but also making friends that he could call family like  Jan Burres and her boyfriend Bob.
