The author of Into the Wild is Jon Krakauer, he was born in 1954 and grew up in Corvallis Oregon. He is a graduate at Hampshire college that wrote many books including a New York times bestseller called Into the Air. The book was translated into twenty-five different languages and was in the times magazines books of the year. Jon Krakauer supported himself as a commercial fisherman and carpenter when he wasn't writing books. In 1996 he climbed Mt.Everest and a storm took place and killed four out of the five teammates who reached the summit with him. Jon is a successful author, adventurist and a caring man, he donated an estimate 1.7 million dollars to various charity's and foundations.
